Upcoming: Green With Indie Craft Show

Green With Indie Craft Show @ Webster University, March 9th
Green With Indie Craft Show @ Webster University, March 9th
We're just under a month away from our next event! Juxtapose Vintage will be participating in this year's Green With Indie Craft Show. Each year, the St. Louis Craft Mafia pulls together some of the BEST local, eco-friendly, and sustainable vendors to take part in this show... and we were selected! Juxtapose is honored to be part of the lineup this year and we have been working extremely hard scouring sales and bins to find a great selection to bring to shoppers on March 9th at Webster University's Grant Gym. We have also been putting together our line of re-purposed housewares that we will be introducing that day!
Here at Juxtapose Vintage we believe in reinvention and finding new uses for things of the past. We love to breathe new life into forgotten pieces and find a new purpose for materials. It's important to us to reuse materials rather than buying new and recycle them into the world!
So why don't you sneak a little peek into what we've been up to while getting ready for the Green With Indie Craft Show:

New Event! Handmade Happy Hour - Sweetheart Edition

Support your community, shop small and local!
Support your community, shop small and local!

St. Louis' Handmade Happy Hour is always one of my favorite events. Each month Lindsay Pattan of Miss Ohio Vintage and Heartland Underdog curates a crop of extremely talented indie handmade and locally sourced vendors in a family friendly shopping environment. She showcases some of St. Louis' finest talent at some of the best locally run restaurants to encourage everyone to support their community.

Having been a part of Handmade Happy Hour since the beginning (with working with MOV), I have seen the success and growth that it has made in showing that St. Louis has some of the best and most talented individuals when it comes to handmade and vintage products. By shopping small and from these vendors, you are helping to pay bills, buy food, and promote creativity and a dream.

And on February 1st, Juxtapose Vintage will be at Home Wine Kitchen for the second annual Handmade Happy Hour - Sweetheart Edition! Come out and see us and all of the other amazing vendors while enjoying Home Wine Kitchen's delicious (and locally sourced) food. Stay for a drink, or stay for dinner! (Reservations are encouraged, contact Home for details)

New Year, New Listings!

New Year, New Etsy Listings!
Drunken Night Lamp Post Bar Light on Etsy.
It's 2013. It's a New Year, it's a fresh start, and it's definitely time for more new listings! While we are only a few weeks into this adventure, the fresh start of a new year is always a good time to brag about the new items listed on the Juxtapose Etsy shop. My partner (and mother) hit the jackpot this last weekend on her hunt to bring you all a new crop of items. And let me tell you... she delivered! Recently added to the shop was a LOT more teak serving sets (we sold out of ALL of our bowls at last month's Gentleman's Emporium), more decanters (also sold out!), and a new batch of Pyrex. That's not to say we didn't add a whole lot more, but that's just the start of it!

With the New Year, we're both excited about all of the estate sales and treasure hunts that are around the corner, as well as all the new opportunities! This year we are looking to expand the Etsy shop to include more re-purposed goods (I have a LOT of ideas up my sleeve), as well as continue to make the craft fair and locally sourced circuit. In December we had the privilege of participating in the aforementioned Gentleman's Emporium, brought to you by Handmade Happy Hour, one of St. Louis' finest locally sourced events. In the coming months we hope to be participating in many more of those, as well as a few other ones that we should be announcing soon!

In the meantime, make sure that you're keeping a weekly eye on our Etsy shop, for all of the newest arrivals! They will be posted every weekend on either Saturday or Sunday! And keep a look out here and on the Juxtapose Vintage Facebook page for updates on events and listings!

To much more fun in 2013!

Welcome to Juxtapose Vintage!

Juxtapose Vintage

Hello! Welcome to the beginning stages of what I hope to be a very long, inspiring adventure. Juxtapose Vintage started from a love of the hunt, a respect for a time that has inspired a modern age, and just not being able to say "no" to a good find! Our love for vintage home decor has expanded the limits of our households and onto Etsy so that you, too, can share the same feeling when you find that completing piece.

Who is Juxtapose? Juxtapose Vintage is a mother and daughter duo, from St. Louis, Missouri who began with the need to furnish a home, continued to furnish a tiny studio apartment, and has expanded into this. Speaking from experience, we know how hard it can be to find that piece that really speaks to the asethetic you're going for (both of us are nearly impossible to please!), but we've found that by stepping back in time, that unique piece is out there, just waiting to come home.

Why Juxtapose Vintage? The name comes from our love of both the modern world design and convenience, and the appreciation of the quirky pieces that you just can't find today. The juxtaposition, so to speak! As with many vintage admirers, we find the brilliance in mixing the modern with the classic, the new and the old. (And Miss Ohio Vintage has been doing it with clothing in the St. Louis area for years.)

This is the first of many posts to this blog. Make sure to keep an eye out for our Etsy in the coming week, and our Facebook for updates on new listings. And make sure to keep a look out at this space for inspirational posts, DIY projects on repurposing all those old things you're not sure what to do with, and general lifestyle posts from the both of us about how we use these vintage items in our every day lives.

We hope to provide you with all that you need to make your home truly yours; encourage you to break out of that department store shell and add a bit of identity to your abode.

Keep checking back! We cannot wait to really get this going!

The End of Festival Season (LouFest 2012)

This past weekend brought the end of the summer festival season for me. I had the privilege of going to Pitchfork for the second time, which got me ready for what was happening in St. Louis the following month. For the third year, the LouFest Music Festival brought a crop of indie rock bands, local restaurants, and vendors for two days in Forest Park.

Again this year Miss Ohio Vintage was part of the Vendor Village, so I got to spend two days selling alongside BelleStyle and Blue Bird Apparel. And when you're surrounded by fashionable ladies, listening to awesome music... it never seems like work!

The highlight of the weekend was seeing The Flaming Lips. There are no words to describe the energy involved in their shows, and being a participant in their live experience. Every single visual element contributes to their show, and I got to snap a few pictures from the photo pit.

Great job on another year, LouFest, can't wait to see what next year brings!

Check out the rest of the pictures from the weekend below.
